How to Spoil Your Mum this Mother’s Day

How to Spoil Your Mum this Mother's Day
on 12 April 2021 in Events & Entertainment

Through thick and thin, Mum has always been there for you. She’s the one person who always has your back. When you have fantastic news, or when you need a shoulder to lean on – she’s that one person you can rely on.

With the devotion mums have had to help us grow and become the people we are today, there is a need to show your mum how much you appreciate her sacrifices by simple, loving gestures on Mother’s Day.

Without further ado, here are a few ways to spoil your mum this year on Mother’s Day.

A Spa Day

When was the last time Mum was able to completely relax without having to worry about a thing?

Pamper your mum with a day at the spa, or a few days at the spa with a gift card, and if you’d like to tag along even better given that Mother’s Day is also about spending quality time together. The both of you will be feeling so relaxed that the day may pass by quickly without the stress and tension.

Don’t forget to throw in a manicure and pedicure treatment as well. More likely than not, it’s been a while since your mum has had the chance to get her nails done professionally for a very long time. And the truth is, women do love getting their nails done, whether they end up going for a natural or more extravagant look. There is no better time than the present to pamper her completely, especially on this special day.

If you aren’t that into going to the spa with her, why not meet up for a meal after her spa treatment at the Grand View Hotel for a Mother’s Day special.

The whole establishment sends forth an amazing ambiance that gives off the same historic vibes that the movie ‘Australia’ starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman wanted to capture. Oh, and the movie was filmed in the Grand View Hotel in Bowen too! Talk about being where the Hollywood stars once were.

Take things casually with Mum at the Front Bar, where you’ll find fascinating parts of Bowen History in the Beer Garden, such as “GRETE”, a 1937 yacht built in Denmark and abandoned in the Bowen Boat Harbour. Soak up the sun and enjoy the live music that will truly make Mum’s day.

Alternatively, pick up the luxury and head to the Restaurant where both of you can experience the true flavours of Bowen.

Comprising all-time favourite pub style meals with a modern twist to delicate dishes featuring fresh local seafood, premium steaks and prime cut meat, seasonal fruit and veg, there’s always a meal to love at the Grand View Hotel.

With professional chefs that have acquired skills from all over the globe, you know that your Mother’s Day celebration will be guaranteed a decadent feast when dining here. Follow the quality food with first class service, fantastic atmosphere, casual and stunning surroundings, and you have yourself a winner.

Lunch on Mother’s Day at the Grand View Hotel opens from 11:30am to 2pm and dinner starts from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. Bookings are essential via phone on (07) 4786 4022.

A DIY cocktail bar

Bars and pubs around Bowen may be closed for business as a result of the pandemic, but your bar at home doesn’t have to be. Open up shop for Mum this Mother’s Day at your home bar instead.

The Grand View Liquor bottle shop at the Grand View Hotel has everything you need to throw a cocktail party for Mother’s Day this year. With amazing service and unbeatable prices, you won’t want to miss out ahead of the big day.

Check out this recipe for a special Mother’s Day Frozen Mimosa Granita.

What you need:

  • 3 cups orange juice (freshly squeezed is yummier)
  • ½ to ¾ cup champagne
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • Ice
  • 6 thin slices of strawberry or orange to garnish

2. Add the water and sugar into a small saucepan on medium heat and cook to dissolve the sugar, for about a minute. Cool to room temp.

3. Add in the orange juice followed by champagne and stir to blend.

4. Pour the mixture in a dish and cover with plastic wrap, freeze it until the edges are frozen, approximately 30 minutes.

5.Scrape the ice from the edges with a fork and mix it into the centre. Repeat this process every 20 minutes until you start to see tiny ice flakes that resemble a frozen mimosa.

6. Fill your cocktail glasses, making sure to defrost it to a beautiful slush before serving with thinly sliced strawberry or oranges as garnish.

7. Does Mum prefer vodka? If she’s a hard hitter, swap the champagne out for some quality Australian vodka, and turn this frozen mimosa into a Frozen Screwdriver Granita instead!

A Mother’s Day Photoshoot

We’re not talking tacky pictures at a photo booth in the mall, but rather a day out and about for a photoshoot with some of Bowen’s favourite local photographers.

Head to one of the five best walking trails in Bowen for some picturesque photographic backdrops and give local professional photographers, such as award-winning Brooke Miles, for a memorable photo of Mother’s Day that Mum will be proud of for years to come.
