7 Ways To Celebrate International Women’s Day

7 Ways To Celebrate International Women's Day
on 20 February 2022 in Events & Entertainment

Every 8 March marks International Women’s Day, which is the day to celebrate the cultural, political and socio-economical achievements of all women and girls that make our society what it is today.

Here are our top 7 of our favourite ways to celebrate International Women’s Day this 2022.

1. Educate yourself about women’s rights

For both men and women, it’s important that you know about women’s rights and how far they have come in obtaining those rights, thus making them sacred.

Granted International Women’s Day is about celebrating women and their achievements, the foundations of how they got that far should be learned and remembered.

Through learning can you feel empowered and confident about how far you’ve come, and that knowledge can help you understand what’s right from wrong, especially in unexpected situations. There are many resources online that help educate women about their rights, so start studying and start spreading the information you learn.

2. Donate to non profit organisations that help women in need

Sometimes the best way to celebrate is to donate to a cause that you believe in. From protecting domestic abuse to human trafficking and homelessness and giving basic education, there are many non profit organisations that work tirelessly to help bring aid to women and girls in need. These organisations often champion free speech and women’s rights, prioritising basic human rights in marginalised communities both nationally and internationally.

Support the causes that speak to your heart, knowing that every donation made makes a real difference to the women and girls around the world.

3. Spend time with your girls online

With the restrictions of travelling being tighter than ever before, this International Women’s Day should be spent without borders and online over a Zoom call with your favourite girls around the world.

Plan a get together with your besties to catch up, laugh and enjoy your time together. This could be as simple as a relaxed get together over wine and even cooking to having a chat and discussion about women’s day focusing on feminist issues, daily struggles and talk about the challenges you’re facing as a woman in society. Sharing your situation with other women you know can be empowering, with the benefit of exposing you to different ideas to overcome challenges in your life.

4. Support local women-owned brands

For those who are looking to pamper themselves on Women’s International Day, there’s no better way to do so than by supporting locally owned brands headed by strong entrepreneur women. Some brands may even support additional causes, so be sure to look into their brand information and their mission statement. There are plenty of women owned businesses online which you can support by giving your money back to women on International Women’s Day.

5. Run a book club featuring women authors

For Women’s Day, you could always arrange a book club with the women in your life that features women authors. Enjoy reading sessions with them as you host discussions at the end of the meeting where women can share their opinions and thoughts about the book. You could even go so far as to make the book club meeting a monthly or weekly affair to enjoy a wholesome and educational experience together.

6. Watch movies with strong women leads

There’s no doubt that everyone loves a good movie, so why not embrace a women-led movie with your girlfriends on International Women’s Day?

Whether it’s masterpieces that have been created by women directors or producers, or those that have strong female leads, all you have to do is some basic research on women actors you enjoy watching and finding out which movies and lead roles they have been involved in. Found up the list and enjoy an online watch party to binge watch these classics.

Some great flicks to get you started include Wonder Woman featuring Gal Gadot, The Iron Lady focusing on Margaret Thatcher, Legally Blonde empowering women in the legal field, to name a few.

7. Embrace the women in your life over a meal

Treat the women in your life with a beautiful meal at the Grand View Hotel in Bowen. Serving only the freshest meals made from local produce and fresh caught seafood curated by professional chefs, it’s a meal to be had and will certainly impress. Join along the dress up trivia night boasting a Gordon’s Pink Spritz Cocktail special that is simply irresistible.

With waterfront views that make the sky a blissful backdrop as the sun sets, the ambiance is perfect for an International Women’s Day celebration with the important women in your life.
