The Easter holidays aren’t far away, meaning the weather conditions will peak beautifully for an awesome family adventure around Bowen.

Here are 3 of our favourite family friendly activities in Bowen that will keep the whole family entertained this 2022 Easter holidays.

Going on a classic Easter camping trip

There’s something magical about camping during Easter, especially with the beautiful weather that’s rolling out of summer heat. It’s that time of year where families are blessed with a long weekend filled with adventure, and there’s no better place to explore than in Bowen and the Whitsundays.

If you’re looking for a camping site to set yourselves up, be sure to check out the Bowen Palms Caravan Park which comes highly recommended based on 125 Google reviews averaging at 4 stars out of 5.

The park is nestled over 10 acres of grassy area ensuring plenty of space for the kids to explore the wildlife and nature surrounding them. Location is ideal, being a quick stone’s throw away from popular Bowen attractions including sandy beaches, the Bowen water park, playgrounds, tennis courts, medical centre, cinemas, restaurants and more. A trip to Airlie Beach is only a short 40 minutes drive away.

There are plenty of accommodation options for families who are camping, with self-contained ensuite villas or cabins, powered and unpowered sites for caravans and camping, with huge open camping areas that aren’t restricted to size, meaning you can bring your boat along to explore Bowen’s waterways and bays.

There’s also WiFi available on the camping grounds, which isn’t common at all for caravan parks and can be a big deal maker for families who love their technology.

Amenities and facilities are well-maintained and the camp kitchen is decently sized and well-equipped. There’s an outdoor fire pit at night to keep the little ones entertained, allowing them to roast their marshmallows and tell some stories by the fire.

Go fishing with the kids on Good Friday

Continue the long time tradition of eating fish this Good Friday, and go out on an adventure with the little ones to catch your meal.

Spend this Easter holiday teaching the kids how to throw a line and catch a good one.

Popular fishing spots for onshore fishing include the Bowen Town Jetty, where the Bowen Family Fishing Classic is held every year. There’s a ton of fishing opportunities with a great range of species such as coral trout, pilchards, mackerels and travellies.

For those lucky to have a boat to do some offshore fishing, be sure to head to Lighthouse Island, Middle Island, Stone Island and the Holbourne and Gloucester islands for some good fishing. The coral reefs create great habitats and luring places for plenty of fish including painted crayfish.

If you’re out of luck catching a fish for Good Friday, head to the Grand View Hotel for a seafood meal of your dreams. An exquisite Bowen dining experience awaits with Thai-style marinated prawns, spicy Rhode Island calamari, New Zealand pan-fried oysters, puttanesca pizza, creamy Tuscan spaghetti with local prawns, ginger beer battered fish and chips, and many more seafood delicacies to be had.
