Each year, The Whitsundays plays host to the Clipper Race Carnival where 11 70-foot ocean racing yachts and their Skippers gather to compete for the fourth leg of the Asia-Pacific Clipper Race Challenge. Having started in London four months prior, the Round the World Yacht Race will see competitors sail to Portugal, Uruguay, South Africa, Australia, China, Philippines, USA, Panama, Bermuda Northern Ireland, and finally back to London in August 2020.
But it’s not just all about the boats – over the course of the week-long event, several regional events and activities will take place in Bowen and surrounds. Think beachside rodeos, a long table luncheon on the sands of Whitehaven beach, sailing experiences for all levels and a welcome party hosted in the centre of Airlie Beach.
With only a few weeks until the carnival kicks off, it’s time to start preparing for yet another action-packed year of festivities.
